Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the audition process like?

All those auditioning sing a song and act a scene recommended by the production team and learn a short dance combination. Scene choices, sheet music, and other production details are available on the Y’s website 2-4 weeks in advance. Bring a picture. An accompanist is provided.
Everyone should register for a time slot in advance at Time slots are 45 minutes in length, and have up to 20 spaces available. Auditionees are called into the room and split into 2 groups: half of the group will sing and act first, the other half will learn a dance combination. The groups then switch rooms and those that have sung and acted, dance; those that have danced, sing and act.

We can accept up to 70 performers in a production.

What is the rehearsal commitment?

The Y Arts Theatre Company typically rehearses twice a week: Thursday evenings from 6:30-9:30pm (Children under 12 are typically released earlier) & Saturday afternoons from 1-6:30pm (Y Arts Theatre Company) and Saturday from 1-4:30pm (Y Arts Youth Theatre Company). Cast members must be available for all rehearsals, performances, and any scheduled public events. Attendance is a must. Your initial commitment is to provide the highest quality performance, and all other conflicts and commitments must be known in advance.

Will I have to be at every rehearsal?

The Y Arts Team makes a concerted effort to build a comprehensive schedule that is distributed 2 weeks in advance. Though performers may not be needed at every rehearsal, we ask that Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons are blocked out so that all characters may be called on those particular days.

How much are tickets? Do cast members receive complimentary tickets?

Ticket prices vary depending on the show. Some performances may offer preferred seating (choose your seat!) while others are general admission. Ticket prices range from $12-$20. Cast members do not receive complimentary tickets.

How long is the performance?

Y Arts Theatre Company shows: approx. 2 hours with a 15-minute intermission.
Y Arts Youth Theatre Company shows: approx. 1 hour with no intermission.
