WHY THE FOCUS ON STRENGTH?

Muscle mass naturally diminishes with age. “If you don’t do anything to replace the lean muscle you lose, you’ll increase the percentage of fat in your body,” says Edward R. Laskowski, M.D., a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist at May Clinic, Rochester, Minn., and co-director of Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center. “But strength training can help you preserve and enhance muscle mass at any age.”

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

Bone Up is a group training program designed to improve strength, flexibility, and balance. Most of the exercises will be done on the training floor; some will be in the studio.

THE CURRICULUM INCLUDES:

  • A Warm Up
  • Resistance Training using 6-8 repetitions
  • Arm Work
  • Ab/Core Exercises
  • Mobility and Balance Training
  • Exercise selections especially target areas of the body that weaken with age.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Bone Up is for anyone who wants to increase overall strength. It is ideal for women who have a family history of osteoporosis, those who have been diagnosed with osteopenia, women in menopause or anyone who wants to increase their strength in a friendly non-competitive environment.
