THE AOA SOCIAL CIRCLE - MAY

2026 ANNUAL CAMPAIGN

The Annual Campaign, held each year in the first quarter, is the Y’s general appeal to the Community-At-Large. Primarily to support our philanthropic work, your financial support assists the Y in responding to the ongoing requests for help we receive daily. Your Membership Dues and Program Fees go toward covering the Y’s operating expenses, but your donations for the Campaign go toward helping your neighbors stay healthy and well. Connected by a shared vision, Staff at all levels work with one another to engage committed Volunteers, YMCA Members, and Donors to make a lasting impact on the communities served by our Y.

Dear AOA Members,

AOA Reflections – A Month of Connection, Growth, and Joy

As I take a moment to reflect on this past month in the AOA Department, I’m struck by the incredible sense of connection and momentum that continues to grow within our community.

One of the highlights was our recent trip with 40 AOA members—a day filled with laughter, friendship, and shared experiences. We began with a wonderful lunch at The Millburn Standard, where the food was superb and the company even better. From there, we enjoyed a fabulous performance of 1776 at Paper Mill Playhouse. It was truly a special day, and our members are already looking ahead with excitement to our next outing—lunch and the opera on July 11th to see Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Back at the Y, we were thrilled to host a full house for our Patriots Lecture, “Remember the Ladies—Women and the American Revolution.” The engagement and enthusiasm in the room were inspiring, and we look forward to continuing the series with our next lecture on May 20th, focusing on the Battles of Saratoga and Yorktown.

We are also excited about the many opportunities just ahead. The AOA Volunteer Open House and Lunch on May 7th will be a wonderful chance to welcome and celebrate our volunteers. Our Spring into Summer Luncheon at Portobello Banquets on June 10th promises to be another meaningful gathering, followed by AOA Summer Camp from June 16–18—always a favorite filled with fun, laughter, and camaraderie.

In addition to these events, we are happy to introduce something new to our weekly rhythm: “Choice Game Time.” This is a relaxed, social drop-in opportunity where members can gather with friends, choose their favorite games, and enjoy time together in the Commons. It will take place on Tuesdays from 12:30–2:30pm, and we hope it becomes another simple yet meaningful way for our members to connect.

Behind the scenes, we are already deep in planning for Fall/Winter 2026 and Winter/Spring 2027. There is so much excitement around bringing new programs, experiences, and opportunities to life—ensuring that our AOA members continue to enjoy all that the Wyckoff YMCA has to offer.

This month has been a beautiful reminder that AOA is more than a calendar of events—it is a thriving, welcoming community. And I couldn’t be more excited about where we are headed next.

Visit Us in The Commons!

The Commons is the go-to spot for AOA Members (Age 62+)—a warm and welcoming space where acquaintances become friends, and friends become family. Come by the lower level of the Y, grab a cup of coffee, tea, or water, pick up a good book, meet a friend, or join one of the many fun and engaging activities we have planned. We’d love to see you!

With Gratitude,

Mary Joan and the AOA Team

Member Spotlight: Harold G.

If you’ve spent any time at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, chances are you’ve crossed paths with Harold—whether you realized it or not. A dedicated member for more than 10 years, Harold has become a true cornerstone of our Y community, earning the affectionate nickname, “The Mayor of the Y.”

Harold is known for his warm, welcoming spirit and his remarkable ability to connect with others. He seems to know everyone—and if he doesn’t yet, it won’t take long. Whether he’s offering a friendly greeting, sharing a quick conversation, or simply brightening someone’s day with his presence, Harold embodies what it means to belong at the Y. He is always happy, quick to laugh, and brings a wonderful sense of humor that lifts the energy of any room he’s in.

His commitment to health and wellness is equally inspiring. As a triathlete and Ironman, Harold’s discipline and determination are evident in his daily routine. It’s not unusual to see him at the Y multiple times a day, whether he’s swimming laps, training, or staying active in other ways. Beyond fitness, Harold enjoys quieter moments as well—he loves to read and unwind with a good crossword puzzle.

What truly sets Harold apart, though, is his heart. His kindness, positivity, and genuine care for others make a lasting impression on everyone he meets. He is not only a familiar face but a valued friend to so many within our community.

Harold is a shining example of the spirit of the Wyckoff Family YMCA, and we are proud to celebrate him in this month’s AOA Newsletter.

AOA Trip- Lunch & A Play

The AOA recently enjoyed a wonderful day of culture, connection, and community with a group trip that brought 40 members together for a truly memorable experience. The outing began with a delicious lunch at The Millburn Standard, where members enjoyed superb food and lively conversation in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Following lunch, the group attended a performance of 1776 at the renowned Paper Mill Playhouse. The production was nothing short of fabulous—engaging, entertaining, and beautifully performed. Our members were thoroughly impressed and delighted by the show.

Most importantly, the day was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and shared enjoyment. It was clear that the experience resonated with everyone who attended, and the positive energy carried throughout the entire trip.

With such a successful outing behind us, excitement is already building for our next adventure. On July 11th, AOA members will gather once again for Lunch & the Opera, featuring Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. If this past trip is any indication, it promises to be another exceptional experience.

We look forward to many more opportunities to explore, connect, and enjoy together!
