Channeling Creativity:

Enhance your Child's "out of school" time!

Art and creativity teach problem-solving, which is a critical skill for success in life. The arts encourage risk-free exploration, and it is this freedom that builds confidence. The YMCA has a dedicated Art Studio for children to channel their creativity! 

NEW! EXPLORING THE ARTS 

Gr. 3 – 5

Wed. 5:30-6:30pm

Explore and learn techniques using a wide variety of art materials. Experiment with various drawing tools including soft and oil pastels, painting with acrylics and watercolors, exploring texture and shape through collage, and utilizing clay and found materials for three dimensional design.

The Chef's Table: 

CHOPPED

Tue. 5:30-6:45pm

Think on your feet in the kitchen! Instructions and kitchen safety are reviewed before chefs create their dish based on the weekly theme. And in the end, no one will be “Chopped”.

Based on the ever popular Netflix baking competition, learn how to make and recreate pastry dishes all with a secret twist of an added ingredient weekly! We are confident that you will “Nail It!”

The Think Tank:  

NEW! ESCAPE ENGINEERING 

Gr. 3 – 5

Thu. 5:15-6:15pm   Sess. I

Hurry, your team has 60 minutes to discover clues, solve puzzles, answer riddles, and manipulate contraptions in order to complete assigned tasks to ultimately unlock the door! Play various escape games using STEAM skills. Students have the chance to design and implement their own escape games.

NEW! INCREDIBLE INVENTION 

Gr. 3 – 5

Thu. 5:15-6:15pm    Sess. II

Do you enjoy inventing new things? Learn about the process real inventors go through while you help design, build, and program robotic models to solve problems using LEGO® bricks. Learning is enhanced through the use of laptops.

BABYSITTING COURSE 

Gr. 5 – 8

Mon. 6-7pm

Train with an American Red Cross Certified Instructor to build confidence in handling an emergency situation to make you a more successful babysitter. Basic care, safety tips, safe play, and first aid are all apart of this comprehensive curriculum.

IT'S TUTORING TIME 

60 min.

Private tutoring lessons available in Math, Science, Reading, Writing, and Homework Help. Each session is customized to your Child’s learning needs.

The Gymnast Club:

The Wyckoff YMCA offers a Progressive Gymnastics Program where children develop and continually improve their strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. Our Club focuses on self-confidence through movement and strength skills on the tumbling mats and apparatus. Reach new heights on the high beams and uneven bars to perfect your skills!

The Sewing Nook: 

IT’S SEW FUN: Level 1 

Gr. 3 & Up

Wed. 6-7pm,  Thu. 6-7pm

Focus is on a comprehensive understanding of sewing techniques and skills. Develop motor skills and handeye coordination by tracing patterns and cutting out pieces for projects using a variety of fabrics while gaining proficiency on the sewing machine. Basic fitting techniques and project assembly skills are incorporated into the curriculum.

SEW MUCH MORE: Level 2

Wed. 5-6pm, Thu. 5-6pm

Refine skills in pattern reading, fitting, and sewing machine operation, and create more detailed garments using a wider range of fabrics. Learn how to insert zippers, make button holes, and gain confidence and independence in sewing abilities!

Advanced Sewing Students: Be guided through the project from start to finish. Purchase a pattern, fabric, and all the supplies needed.

Use your hobbies to help others. The Wyckoff YMCA is launching a NEW Program where we plan to gather together with a purpose...charity sewing projects to fill community needs. It is our mission - social responsibility! Contact: TiffanyR@wyckoffymca.org with interest. All ages welcome.

MULTI MEDIA ART 

Wed.  4-5pm    

Learn basic color and composition through introductory art techniques in clay, collage, painting, and drawing.  Artists create individual and group work.  An art exhibition is held during our annual show.

FITNESS CLUB   

Wed.  5-6pm

Improve cardiovascular endurance, while strengthening the body with group fitness and sport-related skill games.  Work on listening and directional skills while developing group interaction and teamwork.

Learn basic postures and meditative techniques to quiet the mind, strengthen the body, and uplift the spirit.

Work with a variety of materials to create some fun and useful projects including yarn, fabric strips, glue, tissue paper, shells, and wood to create some of the following:  A Wreath using colorful fabric strips, Decoupage and Fabric to design a personalized 3-D Letter, Gems and Shells to design a Keepsake box.

DINNER TIME CHAT

A time together filled with dinner time discussions while proper etiquette and social interaction is the focus. Dinner is included.

NEW! AQUACISE

Sat.  11-11:45am    

Work your heart while jogging and doing exercises in the pool that provide a lot of resistance for muscles, but no wear and tear on your joints.  Whether you’re looking to lose weight, tone muscles, improve flexibility, or increase endurance, aquacising has been scientifically proven to do the body good!

NEW! TENNIS

Sat.  11:30-12:15pm    

The specialized play-based curriculum encourages social interaction, basic athletic skills, hand-eye coordination, balance, and, of course, a love of tennis. Students have the opportunity to form bonds with their coaches and with their fellow players. All sessions are supervised by highly trained and qualified coaches. The environment is both structured and flexible, with developmentally appropriate equipment that help players feel successful with every swing!

NEW! SPORTS COMBO

A class that encompasses basketball, hockey, lacrosse, golf, and soccer.  A perfect introduction to all things sports.  Each action-packed class is sure to get you moving and having fun!

NEW! DANCE

Sat.  12:15-1pm   

Gain balance between the two halves of the body, express emotion, and build muscle control, all while having a ball and making some new friends.  Improve motor skills, confidence, and socialization.  Through simple patterns, sequencing, and repetition, students learn the basics of movement, rhythm, and jazz dance. Some creative movement and yoga are incorporated into class, too!

FITNESS FOUNDATIONS

Location: Wyckoff YMCA & FLCC

In each Fitness Foundations group class, participants engage in a variety of areas of wellness. The activities include cardiovascular, strength, balance, and flexibility exercises, and nutrition. Contact MaryW@wyckoffymca.org to Register.

The benefits of the class are as follows:

  • Increase muscle mass, bone density, and cardiovascular endurance.
  • Improve flexibility and balance, decrease the risk of falls leading to critical injuries.
  • Increase brain function, improve overall mood, and reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Increase self-confidence leading to improved socialization skills.
