Enhance your Child's "out of school" time!

Channeling Creativity:

Art and creativity teach problem-solving, which is a critical skill for success in life. The arts encourage risk-free exploration, and it is this freedom that builds confidence. The YMCA has a dedicated Art Studio for children to channel their creativity! 

NEW! EXPLORING THE ARTS 

Gr. 3 – 5: Wed. 5:30-6:30pm

Explore and learn techniques using a wide variety of art materials. Experiment with various drawing tools including soft and oil pastels, painting with acrylics and watercolors, exploring texture and shape through collage, and utilizing clay and found materials for three dimensional design.

The Chef's Table: 

CHOPPED 

Gr. 3 & Up: Tue. 5:30-7pm

Just like Food Network’s Popular Show, this class is meant to challenge “chefs” to think on their feet! Each class starts with an introduction to the secret ingredients and a review of the recipe. Students create a version of that dish, while being guided to do their very best to make a delicious and edible product they can feel proud of...now that’s a winning recipe!

NEW! TEENS TO COOK 

Gr. 5 & Up: Thu. 5:30-6:45pm

Master knife skills, practice meal planning, discover easy prep ideas, and learn how to follow a recipe. Chefs strive to make the most of fresh ingredients as well as pantry staples. Problem solving at its core can come from baking, so expect to dabble in making a dessert or two. Sign them up! It’s time for...”Teens to Cook!”

The Think Tank:  

NEW! GAMEBOTS 

Gr. 3 – 5: Thu. 5:15-6:15pm Sess. III

Calling all gamers! Have a blast creating robotic games each week and learn about gear ratio, sensors, programming, and pulleys. Create a pinball machine, duck hunt, a ring toss game, and more!

NEW! MEGA MACHINE ROBOTICS 

Gr. 3 – 5: Thu. 5:15-6:15pm Sess. IV

Create motorized vehicles and learn about gear ratio, sensors, pulleys, cranks, and programming as participants build trucks, space rovers, helicopters, and more.

BABYSITTING COURSE 

Gr. 5 – 8: Mon. 6-7pm

Train with an American Red Cross Certified Instructor to build confidence in handling an emergency situation to make you a more successful babysitter. Basic care, safety tips, safe play, and first aid are all apart of this comprehensive curriculum.

The Gymnast Club:

The Wyckoff YMCA offers a Progressive Gymnastics Program where children develop and continually improve their strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. Our Club focuses on self-confidence through movement and strength skills on the tumbling mats and apparatus. Reach new heights on the high beams and uneven bars to perfect your skills!

The Sewing Nook: 

IT’S SEW FUN: Level 1 

Gr. 3 & Up: Wed. 5-6pm Thu. 6-7pm

Focus is on a comprehensive understanding of sewing techniques and skills. Develop motor skills and handeye coordination by tracing patterns and cutting out pieces for projects using a variety of fabrics while gaining proficiency on the sewing machine. Basic fitting techniques and project assembly skills are incorporated into the curriculum.

SEW MUCH MORE: Level 2

Prerequisite: It's Sew Fun

Refine skills in pattern reading, fitting, and sewing machine operation, and create more detailed garments using a wider range of fabrics. Learn how to insert zippers, make button holes, and gain confidence and independence in sewing abilities!

SEW YOUR OWN PROJECT

Prerequisite: It’s Sew Fun and Sew Much More

Advanced Sewing Students: Purchase a pattern, fabric, and all supplies and be guided through the project from start to finish.

Improve cardiovascular endurance, while strengthening the body with group fitness and sport-related skill games. Work on listening and directional skills while developing group interaction and teamwork.

MULTI MEDIA ART CLASS

Learn basic color and composition through introductory art techniques in clay, collage, painting and drawing. Artists create individual and group work. An art exhibition is held during our annual show.

CREATION AND INNOVATION 

Wed. 5-6:15pm 

Learn all about technology and how to use common household items to build masterpieces! Members use hands-on materials to create different models that challenge your mind while having a great time! Members use physical manipulatives as well as technology to build their very own creations.

SPECTRA YOGA CLASS 

Wed. 6:15-7pm 

Learn basic postures and meditative techniques to quiet the mind, strengthen the body, and uplift the spirit.

FITNESS FOUNDATIONS 

Location: Wyckoff YMCA & FLCC

In each Fitness Foundations group class, participants engage in a variety of areas of wellness. The activities include cardiovascular, strength, balance, and flexibility exercises, and nutrition.

The benefits of the class are as follows:

• Increase muscle mass, bone density, and cardiovascular endurance.

• Improve flexibility and balance, decrease the risk of falls leading to critical injuries.

• Increase brain function, improve overall mood, and reduce stress and anxiety.

• Increase self-confidence leading to improved socialization skills.
