What is the audition process like?
Auditions are Open Call. Anyone may arrive sometime between the allotted time frame and sign in. All those auditioning sing a song of their choice (Broadway Show Tune is recommended) and learn a short dance combination. Bring sheet music and a picture. An accompanist is provided. Visit the Y’s website for audition materials and forms to fill out in advance.
Auditioners are called into the room eight at a time to sing, while another 8 prospective performers learn a dance combination. The singers sing for the production team; when all 8 have sung, they go learn the dance combination while the dancers then meet the production team to show their dance and sing. The process takes approximately 45 minutes from when the performer enters the room.
How many cast members are in each show?
We can accept up to 70 performers in a production, including adults and children.
What are the fees involved?
All participants pay a registration fee ($150 Y Members & Non-Members) and are required to sell any combination of (5) program ads or boosters. The registration fee includes a complimentary show t-shirt. If your family is interested in participating, but is concerned about the financial commitment, please visit the Y’s website for a scholarship application. The Y is a charitable organization who will never turn anyone away for inability to pay.
The Theatre Company provides most of the costumes for productions. Participants may be asked to provide personal costume items, accessories and appropriate shoes.
What is the rehearsal commitment?
The Y Arts Theatre Company typically rehearses twice a week: Thursday evenings from 6:30-9:30pm (Children under 12 are typically released earlier) & Saturday afternoons from 1-4pm. Cast members must be available for all rehearsals, performances, and any scheduled public events. Attendance is a must. Your initial commitment is to provide the highest quality performance, and all other conflicts and commitments must be known in advance.
Will I have to be at every rehearsal?
The Y Arts Theatre Company makes a concerted effort to build a comprehensive schedule that is distributed 2 weeks in advance. Though performers may not be needed at every rehearsal, we ask that Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons are blocked out so that all characters may be called on those particular days.
How much are tickets? Do cast members receive complimentary tickets?
Tickets are $20 for Adults (ages 13+) $15 for Students (ages 18-22) & Seniors and $12 for Children (ages 12 and under)
Cast members do not receive complimentary tickets.
How long is the performance?
Theatre productions are typically 2 hours with a 15-minute intermission.
