Wyckoff YMCA Sharks WIN!

The Wyckoff Sharks boys and girls teams have been competing throughout the 2018 – 2019 short course season for the chance at team history, their first ever State Team Championship.  With an eye on the prize, the Sharks 12 & under swimmers rose to the occasion with a great performance in late February, giving the 13 & older swimmers the chance to finish the quest.  With one great performance after another the 13 & older boys and girls raced their way to a NJ State Boys Championship title and an overall third place team finish. The team will now set their sights on the 14 & Under NJ Junior Olympics, the Eastern Zone Championships, and the National YMCA Championships.

2019 YMCA 12 & Under State Championships

The Wyckoff YMCA Sharks Swim Team jumped into the pool at the Ocean County YMCA on Friday 2/22/19 with one thing in mind, to win the YMCA State Championship.  During the 3 day competition the Sharks had 15 first place finishes and broke 9 YMCA State Records.  The Sharks demonstrated what teamwork is all about, as every single member played a vital role in the team’s victory.  The team will swim next at the NJ Junior Olympics in March and then again in April at the Eastern Zone Championships.

Table to Table food for the Hungry Initiative Sharks Logo

Two of our veteran Shark swim team members, who were both a part of the team for 11 years, Courtney and Kimberly Caccamo, have been the captains of the fundraiser “Bag a Lunch, Help a Bunch” that our team has participated in for the past 7 years to benefit the Table to Table organization.
Table to Table is a community based food rescue program that collects prepared and perishable food that would otherwise be wasted and delivers it to organizations that serve the hungry in Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Passaic counties. They “rescue” food from about 200 donors (supermarkets, distributors, restaurants) and deliver it the same day free of charge to over 160 community organizations including soup kitchens, homeless shelters, after-school programs and homes for the elderly. The 'Bag a Lunch-Help a Bunch' fundraiser is one of the most impactful community service projects that the Sharks swim team participates in each year.
The goal of this fundraiser is to have each participant donate their lunch money for ONE particular day and bag their own lunch that day! Many of our team members choose to participate in this fundraiser to make it successful and I am happy to report that over the past 7 years our team has raised over an amazing $22,000 on behalf of the Wyckoff YMCA Sharks swim team. Now, since we have placed in the top 5 several times, our Sharks logo is proudly displayed on one of the Table to Table delivery trucks!
