Lap The Lake

Message from Race Director:

To our Athletes,

Our race committee has been following the ever-changing environment surrounding COVID-19.  The month of June had looked to be another busy one for us at the Wyckoff YMCA with Lap the Lake on June 6th and then continuing our tradition of partnership with the Wyckoff-Midland Park Rotary with our 38th annual Triathlon on June 20th, all with the help of the gracious hosts at the Indian Trail Club.

In light of the fact that the Indian Trail Club and County Parks are closed with no re-open date at this time, along with the incredible demands on the State, County, and Local Police Departments and First Responders, we have no other option than to cancel both the Lap the Lake Open Water Swim and the Wyckoff Franklin Lakes Triathlon scheduled for this June.

It’s important that you know how privileged we feel to have been on your race schedules.  As New Jersey’s longest running triathlon, we have been fortunate to see generations of families come together every June to join us.  Our events have come to be a reunion for friends and a fitness challenge for everyone.  We are already planning a virtual option for June to recognize our events.  Details for that will be available in the very near future.

As many of you know, our race events are so much more than fun and competitive community gatherings.  These events help to support our missions of service in the community through the Wyckoff Y Cares Fund and the service projects of the Wyckoff-Midland Park Rotary.  Each year, our organizations rely on the proceeds from our race events to carry out the philanthropic work that our groups were built upon.

The Wyckoff Y Cares Fund helps to:

  • Address the needs of those facing critical illness, unemployment, or a debilitating loss.  The Wyckoff Y Cares fund is currently supporting local restaurants, front-line workers, and first responders through the Hometown Healthcare Heroes program.
  • Provide life-altering opportunities for cancer survivors at no personal cost through the Y’s Live Well Cancer Survivor Program.
  • Underwrite the costs for over 100 kids and Young Adults with Autism, Down syndrome, and other developmental disabilities, who attend the Y’s Special Needs Programs, thus providing family stability.
  • Respond to the isolated older Adults with hopeful means and support, so that they may reconnect with others in their community and engage in active and rewarding experiences.

The Wyckoff-Midland Park Rotary:

  • Through the Gift of Life program, provided resources to save more than 1,000 children and adults who required life-saving heart surgeries in the country where they reside.
  • Raises and donates an average of $15,000 each year to local and regional charities and support organizations.
  • Awards over $16,000 in scholarships each year to graduating seniors from the towns of Wyckoff and Midland Park.
  • Sponsors Interact Clubs at Ramapo and Midland Park High Schools and a ReAct Club at Eisenhower Middle School, providing our future leaders the opportunity to learn philanthropy and service.

We want to provide you with two options for your 2020 race entry fees.

  • Donate your entry. Even though we cannot race this year, both the Wyckoff Y Cares Fund and the Wyckoff Midland Park Rotary will continue to serve the community.  Now more than ever, your donation can have such a profound impact.  You can keep your entry fee applied to this year’s race, which will allow us to continue to serve our communities.  Your entry fee will be a tax-deductible donation.
  • Defer to 2021. We can simply defer your race entry to next year’s race.  There is no fee to defer to next year.  We anticipate the date of the 2021 triathlon to be June 19, 2021, the day before Father’s Day, with Lap the Lake to be on Saturday June 5th or 12th

Please email your response by May 15, 2020 to  If we do not hear from you by this date, we will consider your entry fee to be a donation to the Wyckoff Family YMCA and Wyckoff Midland Park Rotary.

Lap the Lake

June 2021

Race for a Cause:

Challenge yourself in a .5mi., 1mi. or 2mi. course that will continue to build your fitness goals. All proceeds to benefit Wyckoff Y Cares.

The Wyckoff Y is a non-profit organization and strengthening community is our cause. With your support, we can make sure that everyone who needs the Y has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.  Together, we can make a meaningful and lasting impact on our community, one person at a time.

This race would not be possible without the tremendous support of the Indian Trail Club and their continued commitment to the community. We would also like to thank the Franklin Lakes Ambulance Corps and the Franklin Lakes Fire Department Fire Rescue Boat Squad for being such and instrumental part of this event.
